The George Municipality and Oppie Bol Foundation celebrated its successful charity golf day with disabled and able-bodied golfers at Kingswood Golf Course with a fancy gala dinner and prize giving ceremony. Sixty enthusiastic golfers participated in the first ever George Disability Awareness Charity Golf Day on 11 February.
The day started with a 21.1km Cycle race trail ride, which also consisted of hand cycles. The main event of a 10km run allowed all participants inter alia to push each other in a wheelchair, take part in wheelchairs (unassisted) run blindfolded, run with crutches or push a wheelbarrow. This also presented possible sponsors and the broader community with yet another opportunity to showcase their support for disability.
Oppie Bol partnered with Shalom Community Care Centre, a registered Non-Profit Organisation that takes care of adults with mental illnesses for a 5km Fun walk in aid of Disability Awareness. The event sought to make the community of Eersterust and the society at large aware of Disability mainstreaming. Chief Operations Officer Heidi Steenkamp said: “We are privileged and honoured to have Oppie Bol Foundation partner with and support us at this event. Caz has become a part of our Shalom family and we are sincerely humbled by his commitment to our goals for Shalom. We have forged an amazing relationship and we trust that this will take Oppie Bol and Shalom to the next level.”
